Election Commission Directs Ministries to Suspend Aid

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Election Commission has announced that the provision of fertilizer and fuel subsidies should be suspended until the conclusion of the general election.

Deputy Election Commissioner for Legal and Investigations, B.P.C. Kularatne, stated that the relevant letters have been dispatched to relevant officials.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Agriculture has been formally notified to suspend the fertilizer subsidies provided to farmers.

The letter regarding the suspension of fuel subsidies for fishermen has been sent to the Ministry of Fisheries, according to the Deputy Election Commissioner.

He also mentioned that copies of the relevant letters have been forwarded to the Ministry of Finance.
