BASL Optimistic About New Era of Governance With AKD

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Bar Association of Sri Lanka congratulated President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on his appointment as the 9th Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka at the election held on 21st September 2024.

In its statement the BASL extended their best wishes to the President in the discharge of the duties and responsibilities of the high office.

It added that they believe that the President will fulfil the pledges given to the people of Sri Lanka who have given a mandate to safeguard the rule of law, independence of the judiciary, usher in an era of good governance and change the culture of impunity that has pervaded the political, social, economic and cultural landscape of our motherland.

Commenting on the foundation for a unified country the statement said that the Bar Association Of Sri Lanka believes that the President will lay the foundation for a unified Sri Lanka where all its people are treated equally establishing a common Sri Lankan identity irrespective of differences of ethnicity, race, religion, and other divisive identities which have plagued our motherland for many years.
