Election Day Rules: What You Need to Know Before You Vote

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Election Commission has issued a notice on how to behave in polling centers and counting centers.

Accordingly,

Using mobile phones,

taking photos,

video recording,

possession of arms,

Smoking, drinking alcohol and using other drugs,

and arriving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

will be prohibited.

The Election Commission has also issued a notice regarding the persons who are allowed by law to enter the polling station.

Registered voters at the polling station,

Polling Station Staff,

Police officers engaged in polling duty,

The presidential candidates who will compete,

Voting agents of presidential candidates,

Authorized representatives of presidential candidates,

Regional representatives of presidential candidates,

duly appointed polling agents for each candidate;

Representatives of local/foreign election monitoring organizations approved by the Election Commission;

And

Only officers authorized by the Returning Officer will be allowed to enter the polling station.

Furthermore, Deputy Postmaster General, Rajitha Ranasinghe, announced that any voters who have not yet received their official polling cards can collect them from their local post office starting today, September 19th.

Voters are required to verify their identity to obtain their polling cards, which will be available for collection between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Additionally, the Election Commission has clarified that voters can still participate in the election even if they do not have their official polling cards, provided they carry a valid identity card.
