Mahinda Rajapaksa Questions Credibility of Former Good Governance Allies

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has voiced strong criticism against those who supported the previous good governance government and are now running as presidential candidates.

Rajapaksa questioned the credibility of these candidates and expressed doubt about their ability to gain the trust of informed voters.

He recalled that the good governance government was initially brought in to combat corruption and arrest the thieves, a promise that he believes remains unfulfilled. 

Rajapaksa warned that the return of these individuals could lead to further instability in the country. 

Reflecting on past struggle, Rajapaksa emphasized the importance of addressing the real problems faced by the people and criticized the actions of conspirators. 

"My friends, there was a struggle, and the conspirators were ahead of the real people's problems. If we had not taken a step back then, this country would have become Bangladesh today," he noted.

Rajapaksa also highlighted the restraint shown by his party during the period of the struggle.

"Despite having leaders who led forced during thewar, we did not a single bullet to harm anyone," he added.

Expressing confidence in the future leadership of his son, Namal Rajapaksa, he said, "I am confident that Namal can win our trust and develop this country as a young leader."
