COLOMBO (News 1st); The upgraded railway line between Mahawa and Anuradhapura is set to open on the 12th of this month.
Sri Lanka Railways announced that a test run of the route will be conducted on the 11th, with a train carrying officials.
The Election Commission has granted permission for trains to operate on this route without any opening ceremonies.
However, the Sri Lanka Railways has not yet made a final decision regarding the regular operation of passenger trains on this line. This delay is due to the incomplete modernization of the signaling system.
To address this, Sri Lanka Railways is planning to run the service under a temporary system until the signaling work is fully completed.
The Mahawa-Anuradhapura railway line was closed for modernization with Indian aid last January.
