Defense Secretary Discusses Rescue of Detainees with Myanmar Prime Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Defense Secretary retired General Kamal Gunaratne engaged in discussions with the Prime Minister of Myanmar concerning the plight of Sri Lankans forcibly detained in cybercrime camps within Myanmar.

General Gunaratne's visit coincided with his attendance at the 4th BIMSTEC National Security Summit in Myanmar.

During the meeting, the Defense Secretary appealed to the Myanmar Prime Minister for assistance in rescuing Sri Lankan nationals currently held in these cybercrime facilities.

In response, the Ministry of Defense disclosed that the Myanmar Prime Minister assured Gunaratne of his government's commitment to prioritize resolving this humanitarian issue.
