Colombo (News 1st): State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe says the plan to remove vehicle import restrictions will be officially announced next month.

He says permission will be granted for the importation of vehicles required for public transport services and commercial purposes before the end of this year.

State Minister Semasinghe says plans are in place to grant permission for the importation of personal vehicles by the first quarter of 2025.

He says permission will be granted to import vehicles without affecting the foreign reserves of the Central Bank.

The State Minister adds that if the vehicle import restrictions are lifted in a manner that affects foreign reserves, it may impact the importation of essential goods.

The State Minister said the restrictions on vehicle imports will be lifted according to a plan, in order to prevent such a situation from occurring.
