COLOMBO (News 1st); The validity period for passports expiring after July 1st has been extended by one year.
Immigration and Emigration Controller General Harsha Ilukpitiya announced this decision to facilitate the issuance of e-passports.
Specifically, if a passport’s 10-year validity period has expired, an additional one-year grace period will be granted until the e-passport is issued. E-passports are scheduled to be issued starting in November.
The Immigration Department strongly encourages holders of equivalent passports to obtain e-passports promptly.
