COLOMBO (News 1st); A SLAF Bell 412 Helicopter is made standby at Neluwa Public Ground to response immediately to any dissater call, said the Sri Lanka Air Force.
On Sunday (2), the Air Force put three helicopters on standby for immediate emergency response in the flood and landslide affected areas.
Sri Lankan authorities have confirmed that 12 people have died as a result of adverse weather conditions that battered the country over the weekend.
Four deaths were reported from Matara, five from Ratnapura, and three from Seethawaka, Colombo.
Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, the State Minister of Defence speaking to reporters on Monday (3) morning said that 5 people are reported missing, and they will not be considered as deceased until their remains are found.
He said that across 23 districts a total of 87,379 people belonging to 23,723 families have been affected by adverse weather conditions. The State Minister added that Rs. 122 Mn was given to District Secretaries to provide relief to the affected people.
