Railways Dept. restructuring proposals headed to Cabinet

COLOMBO (News1st); The Ministry of Transport and Highways said the series of proposals to restructure the Department of Railways will be forwarded to the Cabinet within the month.

Ministry Secretary Ranjith Rubasinghe said the report compiled by the committee appointed to submit proposals in this regard is being studied at present, by a group of Ministry officials.

The Secretary said they would review the committee proposals and prepare a proposal to be submitted to the Cabinet.

Rubasinghe said further measures will be taken based on the decision reached by the Cabinet.

The restructuring plan is being formulated to make the Department of Railways more efficient and reduce losses.
