COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Chief District Judge Sandun Vithana issued restraining orders against Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapaksha and Sarathi Dushmantha preventing them from serving as the Acting Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, and Acting General Secretary.

These injunctions, effective until May 8, stem from a case filed by Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Duminda Dissanayake, and Mahinda Amaraweera, all members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

Presenting the case on behalf of the plaintiffs, President's Counsel Chandaka Jayasundara, argued the illegality and unconstitutionality of the defendants' occupancy of their respective positions.

He stressed on the ineligibility of Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, citing his non-membership in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, further asserting the party constitutional prohibition against members of other parties holding positions within it.

Furthermore, Jayasundara said that these appointments were made at a so-called SLFP Executive Committee meeting on the 21st of April, and noted that the assembly of the Executive Committee was also unlawful.

The injunction specifically targets Acting General Secretary Sarathi Dushmantha Mitrapala, Chairman Nimal Siripala de Silva, and Acting Chairman Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa.

The Chief District Judge mandated the issuance of interim prohibition notices and summons to the defendants, compelling them to appear in court on the specified date, the eighth of May.
