COLOMBO (News 1st) - 43 indictments have been filed against 93 defendants in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.

These indictments, filed at the Colombo, Gampaha, and Panadura courts, cover the events leading up to the attack on April 21, 2019.

The Attorney General's Department said that the main case is before the Colombo High Court, presided over by a three-judge bench led by High Court Judge Damith Thotawatta.

This case will hear the charges against 25 defendants, including Naufar Maulavi. So far, 78 people have provided evidence.

While the Presidential Commission of Inquiry made recommendations, the Supreme Court mandated disciplinary investigations against Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena.

These investigations, conducted by two teams under the National Police Commission, found no evidence against the DIG.

However, the Police Commission has presented a charge sheet, which Jayawardena has challenged in the Court of Appeal.

The Attorney General's Department added that the current Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Tennakoon, has been cleared of disciplinary investigations.
