COLOMBO (News 1st); Sajith Premadasa, the Leader of the Opposition, raised concerns regarding the alleged omission of amendments suggested by the Supreme Court in the proposed Online Safety Bill.
He expressed concerns that the amendments were not reflected in the bill's certificate, potentially undermining their intended impact.
"It is standard practice for this House to receive and consider Supreme Court decisions on various draft bills," Premadasa stated.
"However, there appears to be a discrepancy when these drafts become final bills. The relevant amendments suggested by the Court are not properly implemented. This raises concerns as, on several occasions, crucial amendments and changes suggested by the Supreme Court in the Online Safety Bill were not included. The necessary actions during the committee stage seem to have been overlooked," he noted.
