8,000 heart patients on waiting list for treatment

COLOMBO (News 1st); Co-Convener of the Health Trade Union Alliance Chanaka Dharmawickrama said one of the cardiac catheterization units at the Kandy National Hospital is out of service while 8,000 heart patients are on the waiting list for treatment.
He said there are two such units at the Kandy National Hospital, and the patients are severely burdened as one of the units is out of service.
He added that a large number of machines required for diagnosis in many hospitals across the island are out of service.
When inquired in this regard Deputy Director of the Ministry of Health Dr. G. Wijesuriya said many of the machines that were out of service have been repaired.
He added that the remaining machines are also being repaired at present.
