Showers and Strong Winds Expected Across Several Provinces; Public Urged to Take Precautions

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology says that showers can be expected at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy falls about 50 mm are likely at some places.

Tbe Met Department added that several spells of showers can also be expected in the North-western province and in Matale district.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts in during the afternoon or night.

Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central, Southern and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee district.

Therefore, the Department of Meteorology urges the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
