Colombo (News 1st) - A Russian military aircraft carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war has crashed in the Belgorod region of Russia, foreign media reported. All 74 people on board are feared dead, including 65 Ukrainians.
The Ukrainian army soldiers were being transported for a prisoner exchange with Ukraine when the aircraft crashed.
Videos on social media showed the Ilyushin IL-76 plane falling from the sky and exploding in a ball of fire as it hit the ground.
A Russian member of parliament accused Ukraine of shooting down the aircraft, but did not provide any evidence.
Speaking in the Russian parliament, Andrei Kartapolov, a retired general, said three missiles hit the plane.
