Colombo National Hospital Faces Stent Shortage

Colombo (News 1st): Patients at the Colombo National Hospital are facing difficulties due to a shortage of essential stents required for heart surgery, raising concerns about potential risks for those suffering from cardiac conditions.

Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe, spokesperson for the Government Medical Officers' Association, highlighted the critical situation, stating that the lives of heart patients are at risk due to the lack of readily available stents.

News 1st contacted Dr. Kumara Wickramasinghe, Director of the National Hospital, for confirmation. 

He acknowledged the problem, stating that the shortage of stents.

Furthermore, Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Secretary of the Ministry of Health, confirmed the ongoing shortage and assured that orders have been placed to replenish the necessary medical supplies.
