Keheliya survives No-Confidence Motion

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella survived a No-Confidence Motion (NCM) in Parliament.

The No-Confidence Motion against Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was defeated by a majority vote.

73 MPs voted in favour of the motion, and 113 MPs voted against it.

Accordingly, the No-Confidence Motion against the Health Minister was defeated by a majority of 40 votes.

Notably, 38 legislators were not present in Parliament during the vote.

The Samagi Jana Balavegaya moved the No-Confidence Motion against Keheliya Rambukwella over the alleged irresponsible importation of ‘substandard’ medicines and surgical equipment, which led to a weakened health sector and even deaths.

The Jathika Jana Balavegaya, Tamil National Alliance, Freedom People's Congress, the Uttara Lanka Sabhagaya, and Tamil National People's Front voted in favour of the No-Confidence Motion.
