Ex-Krrish Director Janaki Remanded Over Alleged Rs. 70 Mn Bribery Payment to Namal

COLOMBO (News 1st); A former director of the Krrish Group, Janaki Siriwardena, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over allegations that a Rs. 70 million bribe was paid to Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, has been remanded until October 6 by the Colombo Magistrate's Court.

During the proceedings, the Magistrate directed prison authorities to allow officers of the Bribery Commission to record a statement from Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently being held in remand custody in connection with the ongoing investigation.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama after considering submissions made by Bribery Commission officials and lawyers representing the suspect.

The Bribery Commission arrested Janaki Siriwardena earlier today after recording a statement from her as part of the investigation.

Presenting facts before court, investigators stated that the suspect has been accused of providing a bribe of Rs. 70 million to Namal Rajapaksa in return for assistance in facilitating the rapid acquisition by the company of land known as Transworks Square in Colombo Fort, which belongs to the Urban Development Authority.

Investigators further informed the court that the allegation against the suspect is that the Rs. 70 million was paid to Namal Rajapaksa on three separate occasions.
