COLOMBO (News 1st); Railway operations along the upcountry and main railway lines which were disrupted, after a container collided with a train at the Wilwatta railway crossing in Mirigama, has been restored.
The container travelling from Mirigama to Giriulla, collided with a train plying from Polgahawela to Colombo Fort.
Police said the accident was reported when the container was driven towards the railway line as the warning bell was rung to close the crossing.
No one was injured in the accident.
Trains plying along the main line were restricted to the Mirigama railway station, and all trains scheduled to reach Colombo were stopped midway.
