Establishment of National Sports University to be expedited - State Minister of Sports

COLOMBO (News 1st): State Minister for Youth and Sports Rohana Dissanayake said, steps have been taken to speed up the activities of the proposed Sports University as per the instructions of President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

The State Minister said that the work is underway to provide an opportunity to complete degrees with expertise in sports.

He said that it is planned to establish the Sports University by improving the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex in Diyagama

State Minister Rohana Dissanayake added that it is expected to identify talented athletes at the school and regional level and provide them with the necessary facilities to improve their skills.

Meanwhile, he said, that the government has taken steps to establish the National Sports Council, putting an end to the allegations of political interference in the selection of athletes for international sports tournaments.

He added that the new National Sports Council will consist of experienced sportsmen and professionals and it will help in building a strong sports culture in the country.
