Angoda patient murder: Two more workers sent on leave

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two workers attached to the National Institute of Mental Health have been sent on compulsory leave over the death of an in-house patient.

Health Secretary Janaka Sri Chandragupta told News 1st that such a measure was taken subject to the ongoing judicial process.

Four employees at the National Institute of Mental Health have already been arrested and remanded to the 10th of August over the death of an in-house patient.

Two of them were interdicted, and the other two were sent on compulsory leave.

The victim, a 48-year-old man who was receiving mental health treatment at the National Institute of Mental Health, was killed on the 25th of this month.

Two separate investigations are being carried out by the Director General of Health Services, and a committee of experts attached to the National Institute of Mental Health.

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka also launched a separate investigation into the death of the patient.

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka noted that statements were recorded from the Director, Deputy director, and staff of the National Institute of Mental Health.
