New regulations for street food vendors at Galle Face Green

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Municipal Council said it will take necessary measures to regulate street food vendors at the Galle Face Green.

CMC Chief Public Health Inspector Anura Abeyratne said they have received constant complaints from the public regarding the cleanliness of the food.

He said in future, only traders registered with the Colombo Municipal Council will be allowed to sell food in the vicinity of Galle Face Green.

He added that cases were filed against four food stalls during raids carried out in the area.

Abeyratne said food from several food stalls at the Galle Face Green were tested, following which it was revealed that the food was not suitable for consumption.

He added that the relevant food stocks were seized and destroyed.

Meanwhile, a special awareness program will be held at the New Town Hall Auditorium in Colombo on Monday (31), for traders in the vicinity of Galle Face Green.

Abeyratne said a certificate will also be issued for traders.
