Three arrests made in murder of patient at National Institute of Mental Health Angoda

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a patient at the National Institute of Mental Health in Angoda. The apprehended individual is also an employee of the hospital, as are the other two suspects already in custody.

Earlier, two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident and are scheduled to appear before the Aluthkade Magistrate today. The victim, a 48-year-old man who was receiving mental health treatment, was killed on the 25th of this month.

Following the murder, the Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, Dr. Dhammika Wijesinghe, has taken action by suspending the two health assistants arrested in connection with the case. Both internal and external investigations are being conducted by the hospital's specialists and the Director General of Health Services.

Additionally, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has initiated its own investigation into the matter. Statements from the hospital Director, Deputy Director, and staff have been recorded as part of the ongoing inquiry.
