Sri Lanka identifies two cases of Monkeypox, including a baby

COLOMBO (News 1st); A Philippine national woman who arrived in Sri Lanka and her child have been infected with Monkeypox.

They are currently receiving treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.

The woman had contracted the disease from her husband.

Director of Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children Dr. G Wijesuriya said the 15-day-old baby was admitted to the hospital, and transferred to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.

Dr. G Wijesuriya said tests confirmed that the baby had contracted Monkeypox.

He advised the public to seek medical attention if they have blisters or other symptoms, and refrain from coming into contact with others.
