COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Cabinet Spokesperson & Minister Bandula Gunawardena noted that given the economic situation the country is facing, it is unlikely that an election will take place in 2023. However, he said that once the country reaches a stable economic situation, an election will be held without delay.

Responding to questions during the weekly briefing on Cabinet Decisions, Bandula Gunawardena said that Sri Lanka is yet to receive funding from the Asian Development Bank for the renovation of roads in the country, and it would cost USD 53 Million.

He said that once Sri Lanka announces its debt restructuring plan, the funding will be released, and until then the funds will not be made available.

"We've obtained local and foreign loans, and since we defaulted, no one is willing to lend to us," he told reporters.
