SL's first floating solar power plant gets grant

South Korea provides a grant of US$ 5.2 million to construct Sri Lanka's first floating Solar power plant

Colombo (News 1st) - South Korea has given a grant of US$ 5.2 million to the Sri Lanka Solar Energy Authority for the construction of Sri Lanka's first floating solar energy development project. 

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera announced this in a Twitter message.

The Korea Institute for Technology Development, a semi-governmental organization under the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has made this contribution.

The Minister further stated that the Ministry of Power and Energy and the South Korean Institute for Technology Development signed an agreement in this regard.

Under this project, two floating solar energy plants of 1 megawatt each are to be built on the Chandrika Weva in the Sabaragamuwa Province and Kiri Ibban Weva in the Uva Province.

The minister stated that the project is expected to be completed by December next year.
