Colombo (News 1st) - Turkiye gifted the Mexican army a 3-month-old German Shepherd puppy on Wednesday in honour of the famed Mexican rescue died who was killed in action while rescuing victims of the Turkiye earthquake in February, Mexican media reported.
The black and beige puppy named Arkadas, which means ‘friend’ in Turkish, was welcomed into the Mexican army’s canine unit and will be trained as a rescue dog.
Mexico was shocked by the death of rescue dog Proteo, who was crushed by falling debris after locating and rescuing several victims from beneath the rubble. Mexico had airlifted a team of its globally famous rescue dogs to Turkiye within hours of the massive 7.8 magnitude quake, which killed 54,000 people in Turkiye and Syria.
Arkadas was handed over to the same trainer who had trained Proteo.
