COLOMBO (News 1st); President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed officials to take prompt measures to bring Samurdhi Development Banks under the purview of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe said a special discussion will be held in this regard on the 17th of May.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, State Minister of Social Welfare and the Director General of the Samurdhi Development are scheduled to attend the discussion.
The State Minister said the Samurdhi movement, Samurdhi banks and its employees will not be harmed through this program.
The State Minister of Finance further said the 'Aswesuma' Welfare Benefit Payment Scheme will be implemented from July.
He said a decision was reached to credit the funds only to the commercial bank accounts provided by the beneficiaries.
He added that beneficiaries who do not have commercial bank accounts were informed to open accounts promptly.
