Trade Unions to launch joint protest opposite Colombo Fort

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Professionals Trade Union Collective has decided to launch a joint protest at Colombo Fort on Tuesday (04) afternoon.

The Professionals Trade Union Collective includes representatives of 47 trade unions.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sewaka Sangamaya of the Ports Authority Prasanna Kalutarage said the protest will be launched opposite the Colombo Fort Railway Station at noon on Tuesday (04).

He said the protest is based on five demands including the government's tax policy, the proposed Anti-Terrorism Act and the oppression of trade unions.

Spokesperson of the Federation of University Teachers' Associations Charudaththa Ilangasinghe said all trade unions will protest against the government's unfair legislation and actions.

He said the proposed Anti-Terrorism Act hinders the democratic rights of the people.
