31 students from a school in Nanu-oya hospitalized after food poisoning

31 students in a Primary School in Nanu-oya were admitted to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital after a food poisoning.

Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital Director Dr. Mahendra Seneviratne said that students had fainted and vomited after they had their afternoon meal provided by the school.

The Hospital Director confirmed that the students are not in a critical condition.

Nuwara Eliya District Health Services Director Nishanka Wijewardena said that a team including the Nuwara Eliya Health Medical Officer was sent to the concerned school to obtain food samples.

The samples of ingredients used in preparing the meals were obtained and were dispatched to the Colombo Medical Research Institute and Anuradhapura Food Quality Control Laboratory.
