Payment of welfare benefits for low-income-earning families operational from 1st of July

COLOMBO (News1st) - The Ministry of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies says in a special gazette notification that the scheme for the payment of welfare benefits for low-income-earning families will be operational from the first of July.

The relevant gazette notification states that these benefit payments will be made under 4 categories: transgender individuals, vulnerable, people in poverty and people in extreme poverty.

Also, these benefits will be available for the differently abled, undiagnosed kidney patients, and elders receiving financial aid.

The number of applications received for this social welfare benefit scheme is more than 3.7 million.
