Student monks protest inside Education Ministry

COLOMBO (News 1st); Students Monks of the Buddhist and Pali university of Sri Lanka had entered premises of the Education Minister on Thursday (23) afternoon.

The student monks were engaged in a protest demanding that the Buddhist and Pali university of Sri Lanka be reopened immediately.

In addition, they also protested against the use of police force on a Sathyagraha on Wednesday (22) evening.

It was also reported that the Inter-University Student's Federation was also involved in the protest.

On Wednesday (22) evening, Sri Lanka Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the Sathyagraha.

On Thursday (23) morning, the Vice Chancellor of the Buddhist and Pali university of Sri Lanka Venerable (Prof) Neluwe Sumanawansa Thero said the university will be opened to first year students on the 27th of February 2023.

The Venerable Thero said it was not possible to reopen the university for all students at once, and the Administrative Board has advised to open the university in phases.
