Restaurants to increase food prices by 10% from midnight on Thursday (16)

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Restaurant Owners' Association announced that the prices of all bakery items and other consumables sold at restaurants will be increased by 10% with effect from midnight on Thursday (16).

Chairman of the Restaurant Owners' Association, Asela Sampath told reporters that the decision was taken following the 66% electricity tariff hike.

He claimed the move was unjust, and said the tariff hike was proposed to cover the losses incurred by the CEB over the years.

"We will be increasing the prices of rice packets, kottu and other consumables sold at restaurants by 10% with effect from midnight," he said.
