COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) supporters from across the nation are converging on Colombo for the party's much-anticipated National Convention.
MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena confirmed all preparations are complete and the event will be attended by party leader and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as well as founder and former Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
"Some may claim the SLPP and the Rajapaksas are no more," Abeygunawardena stated, rhetorically questioning, "If that were true, how is it that SLPP flags proudly fly high across towns and cities?"
Social media has been buzzing with videos of supporters being transported to Colombo by bus, further highlighting the party's mobilization efforts.
State Foreign Affairs Minister Tharaka Balasuriya emphasized the convention's significance, stating it will "send a clear message to our political opponents who claim the party lacks a mandate."
The convention is scheduled to begin at 2 PM at the Sugathadsa Indoor Stadium.
