COLOMBO (News 1st); The service extension granted to Sri Lanka's Chief of Police C. D. Wickremeratne ends on Thursday (2).
The government has not made any announcement with regard to his replacement.
A senior parliament official told News 1st that no recommendation had been made to the constitutional council with regard to the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police.
Speaking to News 1st, a Senior Police Officer said that the appointment of a new IGP, or extending the service of the present IGP will be decided on Friday (3).
IGP Wickremeratne has already enjoyed two service extensions of three months each, and an additional service extension of three weeks.
Recently, President Ranil Wickremesinghe sought the permission of the constitutional council to extend the service of the IGP by three weeks.
The constitutional council had noted that its approval was not necessary to award a service extension to the Chief of Police.
