Urgent Measures to Collect Billions Owed by Airlines and Expand Domestic Aviation Services

COLOMBO(News 1st) - Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, Bimal Rathnayake, has instructed relevant authorities to take immediate action to collect the billions of rupees owed by various airlines to the country. 

This matter was discussed at a meeting held at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.

The meeting also covered the necessary steps to initiate domestic air travel services. 

The Minister further stated that plans are in place to bring new airline services to Sri Lanka and expand training and licensing of aviation professionals.

It is planned to attract 12 million air passengers by 2028. 

Given the rapid increase in tourist arrivals, the Minister has directed relevant authorities to take measures to expand airport facilities as soon as possible.
