European Parliament delegation meets Speaker

COLOMBO (News 1st); The South Asia Delegation of the European Parliament to Sri Lanka called on the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on Wednesday (1).

South Asia Delegation of the European Parliament to Sri Lanka, was headed by Ms. Heidi Hautala, Vice President of the European Parliament.

The delegation of the European Parliament included members from Poland, Finland, Germany and Lithuania.

According to the Parliament of Sri Lanka, the speaker pointed out that the government has taken measures to alleviate the economic crisis in Sri Lanka.

The Speaker also pointed out that many positive measures have been implemented in the recent past, such as the adoption of the Anti-Corruption Act, the establishment of a budget office in the Parliament to carry out financial control activities more efficiently and transparently.

Matters such as increasing women's representation in politics, reconciliation activities were also discussed during the meeting.

The delegation also engaged in a Parliament tour.

Subsequently, they met the members of the Sri Lanka-EU Parliamentary Friendship Association and then joined the luncheon meeting hosted by the Speaker.
