COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern about the attacks and escalation of violence, and the resulting loss of life in Israel and Palestine.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Sri Lanka missions in Tel Aviv and Ramallah are monitoring the situation closely and are in contact with Sri Lankans living in the affected areas.

So far, one Sri Lankan has sustained minor injuries.

Sri Lanka called for an immediate halt to violence and calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent further civilian casualties.

The statement added that Sri Lanka remains committed to supporting a negotiated settlement in line with internationally agreed parameters of the two states.

Sri Lanka is also closely monitoring the situation of Sri Lankan migrant workers in Israel.

Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara posted on X, formerly known as Twitter that Sri Lanka is ready to take swift action to protect our Sri Lankan migrant workers.

He said he is in direct contact with the Sri Lankan mission in Israel, and has directed the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment to prioritize the safety of our workers there.
