COLOMBO (News 1st) -  The overseas travel ban imposed on Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal was extended to the 24th of November, by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunuwela on Wednesday (25).

The case against Cabraal was taken up based on a private plaint filed by Keerthi Thennakoon.

The complaint was filed under six individual charges accusing Cabraal of misusing public funds during his tenure as the CBSL Governor.

The complaint also alleges that while serving as the Governor of the Central Bank, Cabraal caused a loss of US$ 500 million to the Government in Sovereign Bonds from 15th September 2021, to 4th April 2022.

The Additional Magistrate ordered for the Ex-Central Bank Governor to be released on two personal bails amounting to Rs. 1 Million, each.

However, counsel appearing for Cabraal said the complainant had filed the matter with no reasonable ground, and therefore it needs to be dismissed.

Objections by both the defence and the plaint are to be filed on the 24th of November 2022.
