Dengue Cases Rise To 41,925 And Death Toll Hits 24

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Health states that 70 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions across the island have been identified as dengue risk areas.

Its Acting Director, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, noted that among these, the highest risk areas have been identified as the Biyagama, Matara, and Ratnapura Municipal Council areas, as well as the Kaduwela, Maharagama, Piliyandala, and Moratuwa MOH divisions.

Dr. Kapila Kannangara further stated that due to this situation, residents living in these MOH divisions must remain highly vigilant.

Meanwhile, today marks the second day of the island-wide Special Mosquito Control Week.

The Special Mosquito Control Week was launched yesterday.

In the face of a rapid increase in reported dengue patients, this special mosquito control week is being implemented by the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils, and Local Government.

The Minister, Chandana Abeyrathna, stated that public support is expected to control the rapidly spreading dengue disease.

So far this year, 41,925 dengue patients have been reported.

The number of dengue-related deaths reported during this period stands at 24.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Hansaka Wijayamuni, noted that the number of dengue patients reported within the coming month could rise even further.
