COLOMBO (News 1st): The Government Analyst has been ordered to explain the delay in submitting forensic reports relevant to the death investigation of former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena, whose death is being probed under suspicious circumstances.
The order was issued by Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena, who instructed the Government Analyst to provide an explanation regarding the delay in forwarding the reports to the Colombo Crimes Division.
The Magistrate also issued notice on the Judicial Medical Officer to submit the complete post-mortem report to court.
The order was made after investigating officers informed court that the forensic report relating to four types of medication recovered from the location where Kapila Chandrasena was found dead has still not been received, although all other reports have already been submitted.
The Colombo Crimes Division further informed the Magistrate that the relevant company had notified, via email, that data stored on Kapila Chandrasena's mobile phone would be preserved for an additional three months.
Police, filing a further report before court, stated that responses had been received in relation to requests made under previous court orders.
Investigators also informed court that requests had been sent to two institutions, including a company based in Singapore, to obtain data from the mobile phone. The court further granted permission for a request seeking an order directing the relevant telecommunications provider to convert the eSIM into a standard SIM card for investigative purposes.
The case is scheduled to be called again on December 2 for further reports.
