Appeal Court Rejects Bids to Intervene in Suresh Salley Case

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Court of Appeal has rejected a series of intervening petitions filed seeking permission to make submissions in connection with the writ petition filed by former State Intelligence Service Chief Suresh Salley challenging his arrest and detention.

The Court had fixed today (22) to deliver its order on the intervening petitions after the hearings on the matter on October 14.

The petitions were taken up before a bench comprising Court of Appeal President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando.

The intervening petitions had been filed by several Buddhist clergy, including Venerable Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera, as well as His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and a number of civil society organisations.

The petitioners had sought permission to intervene and make submissions in relation to the writ petition filed by former intelligence chief Suresh Salley, who is challenging his arrest and continued detention over investigations linked to the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
