Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten said on Monday that he and his fiancé, Olympian Nicolás Keenan, were expecting their first child in spring 2027, with the assistance of a surrogate mother and an egg donor.

He made the announcement through his Instagram, sharing pictures of an ultrasound.

Jetten, 39, became the youngest prime minister in Dutch history after his D66 party's unexpected election victory a year ago.

It is illegal in the Netherlands to pay for a surrogate mother. The egg donor and surrogate are friends of the couple who already have children of their own and who had no commercial motives for helping them, D66 said in a statement on its website.

Jetten is engaged to Argentine field hockey international Nicolas Keenan. The couple had been planning to get married this summer, but postponed their wedding shortly after Jetten became prime minister this year.

Jetten's party has said that the "high-tech" pregnancy was completely in line with Dutch rules and regulations and had been made possible through IVF care offered in the Netherlands.
