COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National System Operator (Pvt) Ltd. says steps will be taken to manage electricity supply over the next few days to minimise the impact on consumers.

In a statement, the company said the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant had been shut down in accordance with standard safety procedures following yesterday’s sudden power disruption.

The company added that the plant would not be reconnected to the national grid for several days.

As a result, the national grid will lose 810 megawatts of electricity generation capacity.

The National System Operator (Pvt) Ltd also said an internal investigation has been launched to determine the cause of yesterday’s islandwide power outage.
