COLOMBO (News 1st); The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court that investigations have been completed in the money laundering case filed against Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa and two other suspects.

The case was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena on Wednesday, during which investigating officers informed court that the probe had reached its conclusion and that steps would be taken to file indictments before a higher court.

The case has been instituted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in connection with alleged financial irregularities linked to the purchase of Airbus aircraft by SriLankan Airlines.

During proceedings, the CID told court that efforts are underway to file formal charges before the appropriate higher court following the conclusion of investigations.

Investigating officers also informed the court that Interpol Red Notices had been obtained to secure the arrest of the second suspect, Priyanka Niyomali, and the third suspect, Shamindra Rajapaksa, and that action is continuing through international law enforcement channels.

Namal Rajapaksa, who is a suspect in the case, was recently granted bail in connection with this money laundering matter.

However, he was produced before court by prison authorities on Wednesday as he remains in remand custody in relation to a separate case filed under the Bribery Act.

Following the proceedings, the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court ordered that the case be called again on November 18.
