Special Security for Remanded MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake

COLOMBO(News1st); The Department of Prisons states that special security has been provided to Member of Parliament Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, who was remanded.

He is currently being detained at the Colombo Remand Prison.

The MP, who was arrested by the Bribery Commission yesterday afternoon, was remanded until the 23rd after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.

The suspect MP faces allegations regarding an incident where he reportedly solicited a bribe of Rs. 8.1 million from three phosphate importing companies without following due procedure, having the funds credited to his secretary Sumathipala Liyanarachchi’s bank account for political use, and taking an additional Rs. 2.4 million bribe from three gem businessmen .
