COLOMBO (News 1st): Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath and Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe met with Nimesha Premachandra, who won the Mrs. Tourism World 2026 title in Manila, Philippines, on October 2.
The meeting was held at the Ministry on October 09, with discussions focusing on Nimesha’s experience representing Sri Lanka at the international pageant, her achievements and the special awards she received.
According to a post published on the Minister's official X account, the discussions also explored ways to leverage her international recognition to promote Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, showcase the country’s cultural heritage and attractions, and enhance its visibility among international audiences.
Nimesha secured the world title while competing against contestants from approximately 20 countries.
In addition to the main title, she received four special distinctions: Ambassador for Education, Best in Runway, Best in Talent – Silver, and the Woman of Influence Award.
Through her advocacy initiative, “Connecting Cultures. Nurturing Future Citizens,” Nimesha aims to promote Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage, natural beauty and tourism attractions to international audiences.
Her work also focuses on education, women’s empowerment and the welfare of underprivileged children.
The meeting highlighted opportunities to utilise her international platform to strengthen Sri Lanka’s tourism promotion, encourage cultural exchange and showcase the achievements of Sri Lankan women on the global stage.
