Colombo (News 1st): Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has filed an appeal petition before the Supreme Court challenging a decision by the Court of Appeal to dismiss his petition seeking an order preventing his arrest under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The petition has been filed through Attorney-at-Law Sanath Wijewardena, naming the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as respondents.

In his petition, Rajapaksa states that he had previously filed a writ petition before the Court of Appeal seeking an order preventing the CID from arresting and detaining him under the PTA in connection with the ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

However, the Court of Appeal dismissed the writ petition without issuing notice to the respondents or proceeding to hear the matter, the petition states.

Arguing that the Court of Appeal's decision is contrary to the law, Rajapaksa is seeking to have the decision set aside and an order issued preventing his arrest under the PTA in connection with the investigations.
