Shiranthi Rajapaksa Produced Before Prison Doctor

COLOMBO (News 1st); Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, has been produced before the prison doctor. 

Acting Commissioner General of Prisons Prasad Hemantha said that required samples for preliminary medical examinations were also obtained from her.

The Acting Commissioner General of Prisons said that Shiranthi Rajapaksa is currently been detained in the ​​women's detention wing designated for housing sick inmates.

She was remanded until the 13th of this month after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court last afternoon.

Meanwhile, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited Welikada Prison this morning to inquire into Shiranthi Rajapaksa's well-being.

Shiranthi Rajapaksa was arrested on the morning of the 7th of October on allegations of having committed offenses under the Bribery Act and the Public Property Act by the misappropriation of 10 million rupees obtained from a state bank. 

The arrest was carried out by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Meanwhile, Pradeep Kariyawasam who was a former state bank chairman, who was also arrested in connection with the investigation into this incident, was released on bail.
